President Irfaan Ali of Guyana shares his expectations for the Chengdu FISU Games with CGTN as well as cooperation between Guyana and China in technology, health care and infrastructure. Zheng Songwu reports.

MOHAMED IRFAAN ALI, President, Cooperative Republic of Guyana "China and Guyana share a very impressive relationship. We recently celebrated the 50th anniversary of our diplomatic relationship. China has played a significant role in the socioeconomic transformation of our country, and importantly, also the role of Chinese play in commerce and business. In Guyana, the Chinese make up an important component of who we are as a people. We have six different ethnicities, and the Chinese heritage is very, very much there. We have been working on a very elaborate program with China over the years on the development of our healthcare system or infrastructure, technology, education, and investment, in education. So we are looking to find ways in which we can expand the collaboration with China and to have a deeper, wider investment portfolio in all the different sectors and one in which we can have a greater transfer of the knowledge and technology in the building of our economy, the expansion of our economy, diversification of our economy. I want to wish all the athletes well. But more importantly, this is beyond the games. This is an excellent opportunity of bringing young people together, bringing students together. The environment in which they can network, they can share experiences, they can share culture, they can share who they are in building a stronger family of humanity. And I think that is an underlying concept behind these games. It is to bring those persons who eventually will be. The intellectual authors of our different countries are coming out of universities, leaders, and to have them understand and experience different cultures and to live in an environment in which they share different cultures. And all of this will add to the improvement of humanity in the building of this big human family that you want to see."
